Hunters, campers and outdoor enthusiasts appreciate equipment and tools that help them enjoy the outdoors more fully. (...)

Hunters, campers and outdoor enthusiasts appreciate equipment and tools that help them enjoy the outdoors more fully. Whether its fishing, hunting, or hiking, the following equipment can make great gift ideas that your outdoor enthusiast will look forward to using on the next outing.

A cast iron roaster and griddle is ideal for preparing wild game and one-pan meals. For instance, the Cabela Oval Cast Iron Roaster & Griddle provides quick and even cooking and the lid doubles as a convenient griddle. Although it can be used indoors, it's best results are rendered for outdoor cooking.

No hunter or fisherman should be without a fillet knife. Like a very flexible boning knife, the fillet knife is used to fillet and prepare fish. They have a blade about 6 to 11 inches long that allows them to move easily along the backbone and under the skin of fish. The MAC Sole Fillet knife has an exceptionally thin and flexible blade designed for filleting sole or other delicate flat fish.

And while you're considering a fillet knife, why not consider a knife block set for the serious hunter or fisherman. Professional quality-made knives feature paring, serrated utility, carving, and a cook's knife - all contained in a knife block for easy and safe storage. Shop for high carbon stainless steel blades and poly handles with a no-slip grip for years of use.

A truly practical gift for the hunter, electric grinders come in a variety of sizes to meet various grinding needs. Choose one, like Cabela's Commercial Grade Electric Grinders, that offer stainless steel necks, bases, plates, screws and blades, and also are certified for home or commercial use.

Nothing is more delicious than chicken prepared on a roaster, otherwise known as "beer butt chicken roasters." These roasters come in either double or single size in stainless steel. Although these kinds of roasters were developed to roast the poultry using a beer can, other liquids such as juice or soda drinks can be used. The liquid provides steaming inside the chicken, which produces juicy, tender chicken that falls off the bone. These types of roasters require an outdoor grill with a high lid design to accommodate the chicken roasters.

Functional and convenient for the hunting camp, a slow cooker is ideal for the hunter who can prepare meat or stew ingredients with seasonings, and then heat out to hunt and return later to a warm, filling meal that's ready to enjoy. Eastman makes a 3.5-quart slow cooker with a RealTree Hardwood Camo design.

Jerky is a food staple for many hunters and can be made from beef, venison, elk, turkey, and more. To prepare jerky, the chosen meat is thinly sliced, or pressed thinly, and drying commences at low temperatures, to avoid cooking or overdrying the meat. Multi-tiered jerky trays allow hunters to process a large batch of jerky. Look for trays with an easy-to-clean tray that catches drippings.

For the outdoor enthusiasts who need their morning java, a drip coffee maker designed to fit on a two- or three-burner gas stove, like the Coleman Drip Camp Coffee Maker, can be easily used on a camp or RV gas stove. The Coleman coffee maker also offers pause, serve, and easy pour features.

Once the hunter heads out, he or she can keep their coffee hot with vacuum bottles. The Cabela Camo Bullet Vacuum Bottle are made of stainless steel and are double-walled to keep beverages hot or cold and are extra tough for rugged conditions. The insulated lid doubles as a cup. The bottles come in various sizes.

Any outdoorsman knows that animal-proofing a campsite is important for both humans and animals. A chuck box is a convenient accessory to keep staples and cooking tools contained in a locked container. Cabela's Chuck Box comes with utility hooks, shelf space, paper towel holder, carrying handles, and even a silverware tray. The formica top doubles as a work surface.

The great thing about sea kayaking trips is you get to see areas of the coastline that are normally inaccessible. However, what kayaking craft you use will depend on where you are actually taking your trip. The kinds of kayaks that they use for warm waters are different from those, which are used where it is cold.

Many of the kayaking trips in locations such as Belize, Fiji or the Caribbean will use sit on top kayaks. Although you will end up with a great tan on your legs at the end of the trip, it also makes it far easier for you if and when the kayak tips over. All you need to do is flip the craft back over then climb back on to it.

However, if your trip is going to be in places like Canada or Alaska then safety is a major issue. For these trips, your kayak will come with a cockpit in which you sit and which a spray skirt covers over to prevent water actually gaining access into the hull of the kayak.

In order to propel the kayak along you need to be moderately fit and certainly have upper strength in both your arms and shoulders. Remember it is these which will be pushing the paddles through the water to help propel the kayak forward and also to help you slow down and stop. But as you will soon discover after carrying out a few sea kayaking trips time can soon slip by without you realizing it.

A good backpack is an essential piece of equipment for any hike or camping expedition. It needs to hold everything for your journey while providing comfort and balance for trekking. (...)

A good backpack is an essential piece of equipment for any hike or camping expedition. It needs to hold everything for your journey while providing comfort and balance for trekking. Backpacks come in different sizes with a wide range of features. The type of hike or camping trip you're taking on will determine which backpack is right for you.

If you're going on a short hike (a few hours) then a small pack will be sufficient. These include day bags and waist bags which aren't technically backpacks. They don't provide back support but since you'll only need a few provisions and a bottle of water it's not necessary. Their small size allows free movement and won't weigh you down.

Day packs are great for short hikes and they can hold about a half day of provisions. All have shoulder straps for back support and some have small chest and waist straps for further support. A feature to look for is a bladder built in to the bag which will hold a few gallons of water. You drink the water from a long tube connected to the bladder so you don't have to keep reaching for your water bottle.

Mid size backpacks (sometimes called midrange or light duty packs) typically have padded shoulder straps and waist straps for extra comfort and support. They hold upwards of 35 liters but don't feel you have to fill them with unnecessary gear.

Full size backpacks (also known as expedition or heavy duty backpacks) hold upwards of 70 liters and are for longer camping trips. Since you'll need to carry a lot of weight these bags provide a number of straps that help distribute the weight. They also have an interior frame made of high quality plastic or lightweight aluminum. The frame acts as a stiffener so the pack doesn't shift and make you loose your balance. Full size backpacks are designed to ride higher so you have freer movement and less strain on your lower back.

When looking for a backpack make sure you try it on and see how it fits. Make sure you can adjust the straps so the pack fits snuggly to your body. Ensure the straps are properly padded especial if you're purchasing a full size backpack Most backpacks these days are made of strong, water resistant material so that shouldn't be a concern. Don't penny pinch; you usually get what you pay for so stick to reputable brands.

A good backpack that fits your trekking and camping purpose is essential. Take the time and spend the money on the right backpack for you.

Family outings and picnics can be so much more fun when you are equipped with coolers and backpacks. (...)

Family outings and picnics can be so much more fun when you are equipped with coolers and backpacks. They are also great for holiday road trips, your favorite sport, a beach outing or when you are off to a fun day at an amusement park. Coolers and backpacks are so indispensable that they are excellent even when you have a barbeque in your backyard in those cool summer evenings. Of course, your backpack picnic set is not restricted to the summer season you can also go on a winter holiday with them.

Coolers and backpacks are available in a variety of innovative designs to suit different requirements, tastes and budgets. There are wine coolers, picnic cooler tote bags, wine picnic backpacks, from major brand names like Igloo coolers designed to make your outings that much more enjoyable.

Coolers help to keep food cool or warm for you and with the variety of designs available you have style, flexibility and convenience.

How do you choose the right cooler to suit your needs?

If you plan on going for one of those long road trips, it is better to opt for a cooler that carries your beverages and another for your food. This is simply because we tend to open our beverage coolers a lot more often than the food cooler and this lets cool air out. In fact, it is a good idea to carry a separate cooler with ice so that you can maintain the cool in your wine cooler and food cooler.

Backpack picnic sets come with a section on top for dry stuff. The bottom is usually insulated for storing food and beverages. This lets you pack all your favorite home food and snacks.

Picnic coolers come with all the accessories you need for your picnic like glasses, plates, napkins, etc. You have the option of picnic cooler tote bags also, making them easier to carry. These totes are insulated and look smart, available in different colors and designs.

There are some great coolers on wheels that are fun to have when you travel. These rolling music coolers as they are called have built in radios that will entertain you when you travel.

When you have backyard barbeque parties, wine coolers can be easily filled with your favorites. Party coolers can even accommodate up to sixty cans with ice and these are perfect for evening get together. Add an outdoor cook out with your favorite recipes and you are all set for an enjoyable evening outdoors.

For the more adventurous traveler, backpack picnic sets are more comfortable. These backpack picnic sets have a place for everything you could possibly want to carry. They come equipped with hip belts, hydration sleeves and special pockets.

One of the most popular brands in coolers and backpacks is Igloo coolers established in 1947 who offers more than five hundred products today. Their picnic backpack set features everything including plates, cutlery, glasses, mugs, cutting board, napkins, tablecloth etc. it has an insulated back compartment where you can keep your food and insulated bottle holders in which you can keep cool wine or warm flasks. You also get wine picnic backpacks that are convenient

Picnic cooler tote bags make it very easy to carry your favorite foods and beverages. They have multiple pickets and a container that you can close with overlapping flaps that self seal. The outer surface has a beverage holder with a seatbelt strap, and pockets. You get them in various styles depending on the purpose. There are beach coolers, picnic coolers, backpacks and totes. Some come with an outer vinyl material so that you can clean them easily after a trip to the beach.

If you are planning any sort of outing in the wilderness, it is essential that wilderness survival kits are part of the planning. Poor preparation can prove to be fatal because accidents. (...)

If you are planning any sort of outing in the wilderness, it is essential that wilderness survival kits are part of the planning. Poor preparation can prove to be fatal because accidents. Not only is it important to have survival items but you need to know how to use them. When you prepare your kit, it should be based on the environment in which you are traveling.

If you are traveling in a cold, snowy region then you must prepare your wilderness survival kits for that kind of weather. Proper gear in this weather includes blankets, matches, warm clothing, flares, first aid and energy food. Preventive medicine is also essential in planning. If you have a health issue prior to your venture in the outdoors then the trip should be postponed. It would be foolish to head into the wilderness with a toothache or tooth infection or any other malady that will just get worse without having it taken care before your trip. If you have medication that you are required to take, make sure you bring it with you.

Wilderness survival kits are not just to carry on your person, carrying a kit in your car for the weather conditions of the corresponding season is a good practice. This is especially true if you drive in remote areas. The kit you prepare for your vehicle should be larger than the one you carry on your person or in your backpack. Even if you prepare a small kit, it is better than none at all.

Wilderness survival kits should be contained in an appropriate case or container. It must be waterproof or at the very least, it should be water repellent. It must be easy to carry or it should be attached to you in some way that does not hinder your movement. It cannot be too heavy that it over burdens you as well. It would also be advantageous to have several different size compartments so that not everything is all mixed together.

Another important piece of wilderness survival kits is a good knife. This tool is your most essential piece of equipment. Make sure you have a knife that suits your needs and the environment you are traveling in. A belt sheath is essential, as your knife needs to be easily accessible. Make sure that it has been sharpened before your trip. A dull knife is not the kind of tool you want with you, accidents happen with dull knives.

If heading out on any hiking, hunting, fishing or even just a walk in the wilderness, the proper footwear is crucial. Having the proper footwear would be considered part of your wilderness survival kits. Good ankle support is important regardless of the terrain. Twisting an ankle is a common injury sustained while in the outdoors. Some people may not consider what you are wearing as being part of a survival kit, however, your clothing and footwear can be one of the most important aspects of your survival. As you can see, planning and preparation is half the battle when it comes to surviving in the outdoors.

When choosing a tent there are several factors to keep in mind. First of all, you will need to know how many people will be sleeping in it. Tent manufacturers will usually list how many people it can sleep. Usually it's best to go a little larger than what the manufacturer claims. For instance, if you buy a 2 person tent, then you might want to consider buying a 3 or 4 person tent instead because unless you like to be packed like sardines, you might want the extra elbow room. You need to keep in mind that you will need room for sleeping bags, sleeping pads, any extra clothing, headlamps or flashlights, and basic essentials.

You will also need to check the weight of the tent. While it may be nice to have the extra space in a 4 person tent while on a backpacking trip, you might want to consider carrying a lighter tent when traveling solo. The extra pound or two might not seem like a lot, but when you're carrying everything on your back, every ounce counts. Also keep in mind the number of poles that the tent has.

Another factor when deciding on a tent is the weather during which you'll be using your tent. Do you need a 4 season tent, or just a summer tent. A 4 season tent is usually heavier and sturdier than most. Most tents also come with a rain shelter. Rain covers are important because you don't want to wake up in the morning in a puddle of water. If you'll be backpacking in a variety of climates and seasons, then a convertible tent may be a viable option. A convertible tent usually has an optional vestibule and poles, which can be left at home or in your vehicle if you'll be sleeping in milder climates.

You will usually find backpacking tents for sale at specialty stores. Tents found in department stores, and common variety stores are usually made for family camping, meaning that they usually are not carried for long distances. They are also quite heavy, and the rain fly's usually are not sufficient to withstand the rigors of the back country and being exposed to the elements.

Ventilation is also something to keep in mind. While it may seem unnecessary to have extra windows and doors on a tent, you will find the extra ventilation worthwhile. Especially during trips when you're spending more time in the tent due to weather conditions, etc.

Doing your research before buying a tent can be time-consuming, but buying wisely will be satisfying once you're in the outdoors.

Did you know a woman's core body temperature is on average one to two degrees lower than a man's? Explains those cold feet in bed problem you're having. Additionally 15-30% of women have Raynaud's Disease compared to 5-15% of men. So imagine you're a lifty, a woman, and you have Raynaud's Disease. How happy would you be to have a pair of Mountain Hardwears Red Savina Gloves. These gloves "sense" the temperature of your hands and adjust the internal temperature accordingly, keeping your hands warm and comfy, without roasting them like those electric socks you used to wear as a kid. The rechardeable lithium polymer batteries weigh a scant 7 grams and will last 4-6 hours, depending use. We talked to Mtn Hardwear's Product Manager Dan Ramos about the glove today.
